- 457MW solar complex begins operation in California.
- The battery installation was covered in the sixth step.
The US Department of the Interior (DOI) reported this week that the 457 MW Palen solar complex in Riverside County, California, has begun commercial operations. It is anticipated that the complex will produce enough electricity to meet the needs of about 116,000 houses.
EDF Renewables is responsible for the project development. In 2018, the business received approval to construct the power plant and the necessary transmission infrastructure to link it to a Southern California Edison utility substation. Beginning in December 2020, the solar panels were erected in four stages, each adding between 100 and 132 MW through the Maverick sites. The battery installation was covered in the sixth step.
Southern California Edison, Shell Energy North America, and CleanPowerSF, run by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, are a few of the massive plant’s power consumers.
BLM noted it is reviewing applications for 64 clean energy projects on public lands in the western US, which can add more than 41 GW of renewable power capacity to the grid.
