- TCN will ration power supply in parts of FCT from January 6 to January 21, 2025, due to FCDA’s road dualisation project along the Apo axis.
- Affected areas include Kubwa, Karu, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, Apo Mechanic, Lugbe, and Trademore Estate.
- Power outages will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to relocate transmission towers and restore power supply to the Apo Transmission Substation.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will ration power supply in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from January 6 to January 20, 2025, to support the ongoing road dualisation project by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) along the Apo axis.
In a statement issued on Saturday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, identified the areas that will experience power rationing during the period. AEDC customers in Kubwa, Karu, Maraba, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, and Apo Mechanic will face interruptions. Parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe, Chika, and Alaita will also see disruptions.
TCN must relocate eight 132-kilovolt (kV) and 33-kV transmission towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line. These towers sit along the Outer Southern Expressway route, which FCDA is currently dualising.
Mbah explained that the power interruptions will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the project period. Workers will dismantle and reconstruct the affected towers, and engineers will rest the power cables to restore bulk electricity supply to the Apo Transmission Substation from the Gwagwalada Substation.
“The relocation of these towers is essential for completing the FCDA’s road project,” Mbah said. “While we regret the inconvenience this planned outage will cause, we will complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.” She also reassured residents that TCN would minimise disruptions and restore power after the relocation and cable stringing were complete.
Mbah highlighted that the project supports infrastructure development in the Federal Capital Territory while ensuring the stability of the national grid. She confirmed that the Apo Transmission Substation will return to operation once the work concludes, providing a reliable bulk power supply.
TCN encouraged residents and businesses in the affected areas to plan for the outages during the specified hours. Despite the temporary disruptions, the company remains committed to ensuring efficient power transmission services.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced power interruptions between January 6 and January 21, 2025, in preparation for the tower relocation and road project.
