- SEWA launched its largest 220 kV substation in Umm Fannin, costing over AED 500 million, to enhance the city’s power network and meet rising electricity demand.
- The substation, developed with Siemens Energy and General Projects Company, provides over 1,200 MW of capacity, supporting SEWA’s reliable and sustainable power supply goal.
The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has launched its largest 220 kV substation in the airport area of Umm Fannin. The project, costing over AED 500 million, aims to improve the city’s power network and meet rising electricity demand.
Siemens Energy and General Projects Company for Mechanical and Electrical Contracting helped develop the substation. The facility meets international standards for quality, efficiency, and reliability. SEWA continues to expand its power network to support Sharjah’s economic and urban growth.
Hamad Al-Tunaiji, director of energy transmission, confirmed SEWA’s focus on upgrading power transmission and distribution. He stressed the need for modern infrastructure to ensure a steady electricity supply for homes, businesses, and industries.
The substation includes four 400 MVA transformers (220/132 kV) and four 75 MVA transformers (132/33 kV), providing over 1,200 MW of total capacity. This upgrade improves grid stability and makes it easier to meet future energy needs. The facility also helps integrate renewable energy sources and strengthens the power supply.
Abdullah Al-Koos, deputy director of energy transmission, called the substation’s launch a major achievement. He said the project supports SEWA’s goal of creating a reliable and modern power network. He also stated that the facility will reduce power disruptions and improve efficiency.
SEWA’s investment supports Sharjah’s development plans. The authority continues to adopt advanced technology to improve energy distribution and reduce power losses. This project shows SEWA’s commitment to building a strong and sustainable power system.
The new substation marks a big step forward for Sharjah’s energy sector. SEWA focuses on expanding infrastructure as electricity demand increases to ensure a steady and reliable power supply.
