- The 11th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue will take place March 19-20. It will gather global leaders to discuss accelerating the energy transition.
- The event will explore how to drive renewable energy investment in developing economies, addressing barriers like capital access and technology.
- Participants will engage in high-level talks and networking to foster partnerships and convert ideas into actionable steps for a just energy transition.
Berlin will host the 11th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) at the Federal Foreign Office on March 19-20, 2025. Over 2,000 participants from more than 100 countries will attend, including government officials, business leaders, academics, and civil society members.
The BETD will be organised by the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), the German Solar Association (BSW), the German Energy Agency (dena), and consulting firm Eclareon. This year, the event will focus on accelerating global energy transition through international cooperation, innovative solutions, and financial support.
Participants will address how to drive investment in renewable energy, especially in emerging markets and developing economies. Since 2015, the BETD has grown into a global forum, creating space for high-level dialogue between government leaders, businesses, scientists, and NGOs.
Energy Transition Urgency
The global energy landscape continues to shift rapidly. Renewable energy sources are expanding at record rates, and experts expect them to surpass coal as the most extensive electricity source by the end of 2025. However, uneven progress across regions calls for stronger international cooperation.
Experts highlight the need to meet COP28 targets, which include tripling renewable energy capacity, doubling energy efficiency, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Achieving these targets will require political action, innovation, and strong financial mechanisms.
“The transition to renewable energy remains crucial for both fighting climate change and boosting economic growth,” said a German Federal Foreign Office spokesperson.
Focus on Emerging Markets
The 11th BETD will focus heavily on emerging markets and developing economies. Many regions struggle to access the capital, technology, and expertise needed for clean energy transitions.
Stakeholders will discuss practical solutions to overcome these barriers. Key topics will include creating favourable conditions for renewable energy investment, securing financial commitments, and fostering cross-border partnerships.
“The energy transition involves more than just climate goals—it seeks to create a fairer global energy system. Emerging markets and developing economies must not fall behind,” the organisers emphasised.
Building Alliances for Change
The BETD will stress the importance of building partnerships across sectors and regions. Participants will present successful renewable energy projects, policies, and financing models that can work globally.
High-level bilateral meetings, roundtables, and networking sessions will encourage new partnerships and faster climate action. The event will also focus on the private sector’s role in advancing clean energy investments and technological innovation.
“The BETD represents more than just a forum—it drives concrete action,” said a German Renewable Energy Federation representative.
As the world moves closer to a renewable energy future, the BETD will reinforce that this transition is necessary and achievable. The event will conclude with a roadmap for global action, emphasising political commitment, strategic investments, and international cooperation to achieve a just and equitable energy transition.
