- Autoliv has entered two 12-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs) with renewable energy producers Alight and Eurowind Energy.
- These agreements secure long-term clean electricity supply for Autoliv’s European operations, supporting its 100% renewable electricity goal.
Autoliv has signed two Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs) with Swedish solar energy company Alight and Danish wind energy producer Eurowind Energy. These agreements help ensure a stable and cost-effective renewable electricity supply for the company’s operations in Europe.
By entering these contracts, Autoliv reduces the risks of future energy price fluctuations and strengthens its energy resilience. The agreements align with Autoliv’s goal to transition to 100% renewable electricity while maintaining sustainable and economical operations.
The agreements will span 12 years, from 2027 to 2039. They provide long-term renewable electricity supply by combining solar and wind power, ensuring energy production throughout the day and night. Additionally, sourcing energy from two countries—Finland and Romania—offers operational flexibility.
The agreement with Alight enables the construction of a 100 MWp solar park in Eurajoki, Finland. The park is expected to generate 100 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the power consumption of 20,000 households. Construction begins this spring, and the site will be operational in 2026. Autoliv will purchase most electricity produced at a stable, low price.
The agreement with Eurowind Energy involves the 48 MW Pecineaga Wind Park in Romania, which will provide clean electricity through a 12-year contract. Upon completion in 2027, the park will generate 176 GWh of electricity annually.
Autoliv has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the circular use of materials throughout its supply chain. The company’s climate strategy, launched in 2021, includes two key targets: carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030 and net-zero emissions across its supply chain by 2040.
Autoliv Europe President Magnus Jarlegren stated that these agreements reinforce the company’s position as a sustainability leader in the automotive industry. The clean energy supply supports Autoliv’s ability to deliver sustainable products while meeting its European climate targets.
Vice President of Sustainability Kaisa Tarna-Mani emphasised that renewable electricity is a strategic cornerstone of Autoliv’s low-carbon operations. She described Alight and Eurowind Energy as key partners in helping the company achieve its environmental goals while maintaining high product standards.
