TotalEnergies Sells 50% PGB Stake to HitecVision

  • TotalEnergies sold a 50% stake in Polska Grupa Biogazowa to Norwegian investment firm HitecVision for €190 million.
  • Both partners plan to scale up PGB’s biogas operations in Poland through new projects and acquisitions, targeting 2 TWh of biomethane capacity by 2030.

TotalEnergies has sold 50 per cent of Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB) to HitecVision, a Norwegian investment company specialising in energy, under a Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) valued at €190 million.

PGB, Poland’s leading biogas company, operates 20 units with a production capacity exceeding 450 gigawatt hours (GWh) of equivalent biomethane. Founded in 2007 and acquired by TotalEnergies in 2023, PGB runs biogas facilities that produce electricity and heat through cogeneration (CHP).

The company is building two new plants in Poland and plans to expand into biomethane production. It aims to reach two terawatt hours (TWh) of equivalent biomethane capacity by 2030.

“Biogas and biomethane are a core focus for HitecVision’s New Energy Programme, and Poland presents a unique opportunity to drive profitable growth while supporting the decarbonisation of Poland and the EU,” said the Chief Executive and Managing Partner of HitecVision.

TotalEnergies and HitecVision plan to scale up PGB through new greenfield projects and strategic acquisitions over the coming years.

“This transaction will allow PGB to continue growing in a country where biogas is expanding rapidly,” said the President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies.
