- Ireland could develop an additional 3.5GW to 18GW of fixed-bottom offshore wind beyond the current 8GW plans.
- The assessment supports Ireland’s 20GW offshore wind target by 2040, guiding site designation and marine spatial planning.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Texas-based OCI Energy LLC, CPS Energy, and LG Energy Solutions’ U.S. energy storage division, LG Energy Solution Vertech, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise their collaboration on the Alamo City Battery Energy Storage System (Alamo City BESS) project.
The headquarters of OCI Energy and LG Energy Solution Vertech’s parent companies marked this joint effort during a ceremony in Seoul, South Korea. This partnership advances grid-strengthening infrastructure that will improve energy security and reliability for residents and businesses in San Antonio, Texas.
Alamo City BESS is a 120 MW/480 MWh battery energy storage project under development in Bexar County, Texas. It will support the ERCOT grid during peak demand and help San Antonio meet its energy sustainability and resilience goals. Once completed, the project will significantly boost Texas’ growing battery energy storage capacity.
Meanwhile, under the MOU, LG Energy Solution Vertech will supply the battery energy storage system and energy management technology to OCI Energy, which will lead the project’s development.
As the off-taker, CPS Energy will negotiate an agreement to purchase energy storage capacity from OCI Energy, reinforcing its leadership in Texas’s sustainable energy integration. OCI Energy will handle the project’s financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership.
Sabah Bayatli, President of OCI Energy, said, “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to energy innovation and affordability. The Alamo City BESS project shows the strength of international partnerships in delivering critical energy infrastructure that will provide CPS Energy customers with greater energy security.
“We are also proud to work alongside CPS Energy and LG Energy Solution Vertech to build a stronger, safer grid that offers more affordable power and supports local economic development.”
Jaehong Park, President and CEO of LG Energy Solution Vertech, added, “We are proud to support San Antonio’s energy transition through this strategic collaboration. This project integrates our advanced lithium-ion batteries with comprehensive solutions, including system integration, control software, and long-term services.
“Deploying our BESS marks a key milestone in stabilising the Texas power grid, and we remain committed to advancing grid reliability as we expand across Texas.”
Furthermore, Rudy D. Garza, President and CEO of CPS Energy, stated, “Our community is growing rapidly, and we have focused on our Vision 2027 strategy to meet this growth. I’m proud of our team for delivering on our commitment to increase energy capacity for our expanding community. Every megawatt we provide our customers counts.”
The project is expected to reach commercial operation in 2027 once the relevant agreements are finalised.
