LONGi Champions Solar Innovation, Energy Equity at aef 2025

  • LONGi’s Vice President, Dennis She, promoted “PV + storage” as Africa’s most cost-effective, equitable energy solution.
  • The company unveiled high-efficiency solar panels and tailored solutions for mining, rural electrification, and off-grid needs across 38 African countries.

The Africa Energy Forum (aef) 2025 brought together senior energy officials, global financiers, and independent renewable energy developers to chart a path for Africa’s clean energy future. Among the top voices was Mr. Dennis She, Vice President of global solar giant LONGi, who led the company’s delegation and offered strategic insights into the continent’s solar potential.

In an exclusive interview during the forum, Mr. She underscored the critical role of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology in driving sustainable development across Africa. He emphasised that the “PV + storage” combination offers the lowest levelised electricity cost (LCOE), providing a viable and scalable alternative to fossil fuel-based systems.

“Energy equity through solar fairness can power Africa’s economic rise,” Mr. She said. “We must address the continent’s energy transition with technologies that deliver both affordability and resilience.”

Meanwhile, at the event, LONGi showcased its flagship BC technology built with heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin-layer and Back Contact (HIBC) cells. With a conversion efficiency surpassing 27.81%, the technology is designed to withstand Africa’s challenging environmental conditions, such as high heat and sandstorms, while maintaining long-term performance.

LONGi also presented two of its latest product innovations. The Hi-MO 9, built for large-scale utility plants, redefines LCOE standards with ultra-high power output and a low temperature coefficient. Field tests indicate an 8.5% increase in energy yield under African conditions, supporting superior returns over time.

Meanwhile, the Hi-MO X10, preferred for distributed installations, minimises accumulation and enhances power output in compact spaces. It delivers a long-term outdoor generation gain of up to 6.08%, reducing cleaning frequency by up to four times annually. According to CPVT data, it also offers a monthly peak generation gain of 5.4%.

Furthermore, Mr. She highlighted the strategic value of PV in off-grid and industrial settings. With fast deployment times and strong energy independence, solar power offers an ideal solution for remote mining operations looking to phase out diesel generators, enabling zero-carbon operations and cost efficiency.

LONGi has developed an integrated “PV + Storage + Microgrid + Scenario-based” solution to meet Africa’s diverse energy needs. These systems are tailored for rural electrification, mining operations, and agrivoltaic applications. By combining localised with high-efficiency products, LONGi is building a robust green energy ecosystem that accelerates project delivery and strengthens sustainability.

The company has already supplied over 3GW of solar capacity to projects across 38 African countries, contributing to completed and ongoing installations. Through this sustained engagement, LONGi continues to shape Africa’s renewable energy landscape.

Looking ahead, Mr. She reaffirmed LONGi’s long-term vision for the continent. “We will continue to turn every ray of African sunlight into sustainable momentum—championing regional energy equity and powering Africa’s renewable future.”
