Genesis Energy, Desert Tech Partner to Expand Energy Transition

  • Genesis Energy and Desert Technologies signed a strategic deal to deploy solar and battery storage systems, targeting over 600 million Africans without electricity.
  • The partnership focuses on mini-grid and utility-scale projects to boost energy access and drive sustainable development.

Genesis Energy Holding, a leading Pan-African clean energy infrastructure company, has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Saudi-based Desert Technologies Industries Factory CJSC to expand access to electricity for over 600 million people across Africa.

The partnership, announced during the Africa Energy Forum (aef), builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year in Dubai by Desert Technologies’ CEO Khaled Sharbatly and Genesis Chairman Akinwole II Omoboriowo.

Under the agreement, Genesis’s solar and battery storage subsidiary becomes the preferred partner for distributing and implementing Desert Technologies’ high-efficiency solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage systems across Africa. The collaboration will focus on mini-grid and utility-scale energy projects, aligning with Africa’s electrification targets and global sustainability goals.

In addition, Genesis Chairman Akinwole II Omoboriowo highlighted the partnership’s significance at the signing. “This collaboration with Desert Technologies is a major milestone in our journey to deliver clean, reliable power to underserved communities. By combining D-T’s innovative solar technology with our deep experience in energy infrastructure, we aim to empower lives, stimulate economic growth, and speed up Africa’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy future,” he said.

Furthermore, Desert Technologies’ CEO, Khaled Sharbatly, echoed this vision, “Partnering with Genesis opens a new chapter in our goal to bring Saudi innovation to high-impact global markets. We are also creating a strong alliance to drive clean energy transformation across Africa, one project and one community at a time.”

Meanwhile, Haytham Abdo, General Manager for Development at Desert Technologies, said the partnership would support long-term energy independence. “Combining our Sahara and mini-grid systems with Genesis’s execution capabilities allows us to develop scalable, practical energy solutions. This will help communities most in need build a sustainable future,” he said.

This strategic partnership signals a joint commitment to closing Africa’s energy access gap through high-impact, locally adapted clean energy projects.
