Sermatec Secures Energy Storage Project in Bulgaria

  • Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology secured a 430 MWh energy storage project in Bulgaria, offering a full-lifecycle solution to optimise grid efficiency.
  • Sermatec began the project in August and plans to complete deliveries by December.

Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology Co., a Chinese renewable energy firm, has secured a significant energy storage procurement contract in Bulgaria, marking another milestone in its global expansion strategy.

On Monday, August 4, the company announced that it will deliver an integrated, full-lifecycle energy storage solution with a total capacity of over 430 megawatt-hours (MWh). The system will enable off-peak charging and peak-hour discharging, allowing users to tap into low-cost electricity and supply stored energy back to the grid during high-demand periods.

Sermatec said the project officially began in August 2025, with deliveries scheduled through December, and grid connection and operational launch expected by March 2026.

Sermatec will also provide ongoing operational and management support, including modular system design, high-durability batteries, and precision control of charging and discharging cycles.

“This project will optimise grid performance and energy costs, while promoting a more sustainable power infrastructure,” the company stated.

The Bulgaria contract follows Sermatec’s previous deployment of a 5.1 MW/17.8 MWh commercial and industrial storage system for a photovoltaic client, highlighting the firm’s growing expertise in utility-scale battery storage.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Shanghai, Sermatec operates five production bases in China and maintains subsidiaries nationwide. The company also runs its European headquarters in Germany, supporting its expanding presence in the continent’s energy storage market.
