Renaissance Africa Energy Company has commissioned an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system at Obio Cottage Hospital in Rivers State, aiming to streamline patient care, reduce administrative burden, and enhance service delivery.

Speaking at the inauguration in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Igo Weli, General Manager for Relations and Sustainable Development, said the digital system marks a significant step in modernising healthcare delivery in the region.

“The EMR system allows us to collect, store, and access patient data seamlessly, ensuring prompt and accurate care, data-driven planning, and ultimately, better healthcare outcomes,” Weli said. “It’s our response to rising demand for improved record-keeping and healthcare management.”

Meanwhile, the Obio Cottage Hospital, established 15 years ago through a public-private partnership, serves thousands of patients annually with affordable, quality healthcare. Weli also said integrating EMR technology helps medical staff access information quickly, reduce errors, and improve patient flow.

“This system improves continuity of care, saves time, and reduces the hospital’s carbon footprint by cutting down paper use. It aligns with Renaissance’s commitment to sustainable development, for people and the planet,” he added.

In addition, the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Wachukwu, praised the company’s support and acknowledged the challenge of transitioning from paper to digital records.

“Digitisation requires training, adaptation, and sustained effort,” Wachukwu said. “But this upgrade positions the hospital for more efficient service delivery. The state will also consider calls for the hospital’s expansion.”

Furthermore, Weli credited the hospital’s transformation to strong collaboration between the Rivers State Government, technical partners, and committed hospital staff. He said the project proves public-private partnerships can deliver tangible impact in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
