Dangote Refinery Begins Rollout of 4,000 CNG Trucks

  • Dangote Refinery has received 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks as part of a ₦720 billion investment to cut fuel logistics costs and improve supply efficiency.
  • The refinery will deploy the trucks over six weeks, a move projected to save Nigerians more than ₦1.7 trillion annually and create 15,000 jobs.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has begun receiving 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)- powered trucks for its fuel distribution programme, which will launch on August 15.

The fleet, imported through Apapa Port, represents a capital investment of about 720 billion naira ($480 million) and aims to cut logistics costs while improving fuel supply efficiency nationwide.

The first consignment has arrived at the Ibeju-Lekki refinery site, where the Vice-President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Ltd, Devakumar Edwin, formally received the trucks. Refinery staff and customers attended the handover.

Group Chief of Branding and Communication Anthony Chiejina called the rollout a “groundbreaking development” in Nigeria’s fuel distribution network. He said the CNG-powered fleet would improve operational efficiency and lower costs, with at least 60 shiploads expected in the next six weeks.

The company expects the initiative to save Nigerians over 1.7 trillion naira annually in distribution costs, benefiting more than 42 million micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. It also aims to create over 15,000 direct jobs, revive dormant filling stations, and reduce cross-border fuel smuggling.

“This innovative model will boost transparency, remove transportation bottlenecks, and enhance energy security,” Chiejina said.

The project forms part of Dangote’s broader strategy to address logistics challenges, improve energy efficiency, support environmental sustainability, and stimulate Nigeria’s economic growth.
