The energy journalism workshop launched by Sahara Group and the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) seeks to transform reporting standards. The initiative, themed Making A Difference: Workshop, highlights the crucial role of journalism in Nigeria’s energy transition and global dialogue.
In a joint announcement, Bethel Obioma, Sahara Group’s Head of Corporate Communications, and Ugo Amadi, NAEC Chairman, outlined the programme. The pre-conference workshop will be held in Lagos on October 6, 2025, while the NAEC Annual Energy Conference will follow on October 9, 2025.
Obioma explained that accurate and responsible reporting shapes perception, attracts investment, and strengthens transparency. Furthermore, he emphasised that #M.A.DwithNAEC reflects Sahara’s vision of repositioning Nigeria’s energy sector for global competitiveness. He added that every headline and story shapes public understanding, making journalist training essential.
In addition, Obioma noted that investing in correspondents will reinforce Nigeria’s energy ecosystem, promote knowledge sharing, and advance sustainability across the sector. Amadi agreed, stressing that the workshop offers a platform for capacity building and professional growth.
Amadi also pointed out that correspondents play vital roles in agenda-setting, gatekeeping, and investigative reporting. Therefore, continuous learning supports NAEC’s values. It also broadens perspectives and builds public trust in journalism.
Meanwhile, the workshop will feature sessions led by Bethel Obioma and Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric Plc. Other facilitators include Olabode Sowunmi, CEO of Cabtree Limited, and Dr Vincent Nwanma, Editorial Board Member of Daily Trust.
Looking ahead, Amadi confirmed that the NAEC Annual Energy Conference 2025 will unite policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and journalists. Consequently, the gathering will provide a platform to debate pressing issues that shape Nigeria’s energy future. Ultimately, this collaboration shows Sahara Group and NAEC’s commitment to excellence in energy journalism.
