Orsted Targets H2 2027 Start for US Sunrise Wind, Confirms Revolution Project Progress

  • Danish offshore wind developer Orsted plans to complete its offshore Sunrise Wind project in the United States in the second half of 2027.
  • The CEO of Orsted said Orsted still expects Revolution Wind to be operational by the second quarter of 2026.

Danish offshore wind developer Orsted plans to complete its offshore Sunrise Wind project in the United States in the second half of 2027, the company’s CEO Rasmus Errboe said on Tuesday.

Orsted has meanwhile fully resumed work on the 80 per cent complete U.S. Revolution Wind project after a federal judge last month lifted a work-stop order the company received from President Donald Trump’s administration in August.

Meanwhile, on August 22, the Trump administration ordered Denmark’s Orsted to stop far-advanced construction on an offshore wind project near Rhode Island, a move that threatens to exacerbate the company’s financial troubles.

This was with construction frozen at 80 per cent completion. Orsted has no immediate path to revenue generation, heightening pressure on the company as it seeks to shore up finances through a $9.4 billion emergency rights issue.

The stop-work order, issued by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), hinders U.S. renewable energy development.

Revolution Wind, Orsted’s $1.5 billion project, is expected to produce enough electricity to power 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut. All offshore foundations had been installed and 45 out of 65 wind turbines were already in place, Orsted said.

The CEO of Orsted said Orsted still expects Revolution Wind to be operational by the second quarter of 2026.
