The Katsina State Bureau of Statistics has concluded a three-day capacity-building workshop to train its staff on climate resilience, peace, and security.

Declaring the workshop open in Katsina on Tuesday, October 21, the State Statistician General, Prof. Saifullahi Sani, said the training came at a crucial time when reliable data is vital to understand how climate change impacts communities.

“I am delighted to see such a dedicated team gathered here to strengthen our ability to collect, analyse, and use data for informed decision-making,” he said. “This training will help us develop evidence-based solutions to the complex challenges of climate change and conflict.”

Meanwhile, Prof. Sani highlighted that rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events have worsened social and economic pressures in Katsina State. He noted that these challenges threaten peace and security and present opportunities to build resilience.

“In Katsina, we have seen both the devastating impacts of these challenges and the determination of our people to overcome them,” he said. “We must harness that resilience to create a more sustainable and peaceful future.”

He added that the workshop aligns with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s vision of using high-quality data to improve governance and service delivery. Prof. Sani also recalled that Katsina recently topped the 2025 subnational climate governance ranking, reflecting the state’s growing investment in clean energy and data-driven policies.

Furthermore, he commended the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for supporting the initiative, describing the partnership as vital to strengthening institutional capacity for peace and resilience.

“This training reflects our joint commitment to sustainable development and security in Katsina State,” Prof. Sani said.
