PowerChina has launched a new initiative to expand Nigeria’s renewable energy capacity. It will partner with the Rural Electrification Agency and local firms to deploy battery storage and hybrid solar systems nationwide.

Sammi Zhou, Global Director of PowerChina/I²-ESS, unveiled the plan during the Nigeria Energy Exhibition and Conference at Landmark Event Centre in Lagos. She said the I²-ESS (Integrated Intelligent Energy Storage Solutions) platform will strengthen grid stability, integrate renewables, and modernise the country’s energy infrastructure.

In addition, Zhou highlighted PowerChina’s track record in hydro and solar projects, noting that the company combines engineering, procurement, and construction expertise with technology transfer and localisation efforts. The firm has signed agreements with certified installers to roll out battery storage in mini-grids and solar home systems across Nigeria.

Furthermore, she stressed that PowerChina applies a uniform global quality standard for all its products, backed by full warranty and after-sales support from its Lagos office. It aims to deliver reliable, long-term energy solutions.

PowerChina has been active in Africa since 1950 and Nigeria for roughly 15 years, executing projects in hydropower, gas, coal, and port construction. Zhou said the company will continue working with government and private stakeholders to accelerate the country’s clean energy transition and expand access to reliable power.
