Pakistan and China reaffirmed the strength of their strategic partnership during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong in Islamabad. The discussion focused on expanding cooperation in the energy and mineral sectors.
Both sides described these sectors as essential for future economic growth. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual trust, underscoring their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Minister Malik began by stressing Pakistan’s plan to prioritise the development of its mineral resources. He explained that Pakistan sees the mining sector as a significant opportunity for investment and innovation.
He also noted that the sector can attract new international partners. As a result, he formally invited China to the Pakistan Mineral Investment Forum (PMIF) 2026. He added that the forum will showcase Pakistan’s mineral potential and support the creation of stronger economic partnerships.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong welcomed the invitation with appreciation. He confirmed that China will encourage senior representatives from key institutions to attend PMIF 2026. He further noted that China already maintains a strong presence in Pakistan’s petroleum and mineral sectors.
Chinese companies such as MCC and CNOC are active contributors to significant projects. The Saindak and Siah Dik mining ventures remain among the most prominent examples. These projects reflect China’s long-term commitment to Pakistan’s economic development. The ambassador also expressed China’s interest in expanding cooperation as new opportunities emerge.
Minister Malik thanked China for its consistent support during Pakistan’s recent economic challenges. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled position in support of China’s sovereignty and regional stability. Ambassador Jiang responded by praising Pakistan’s ongoing reform agenda.
