- Transafam Power hosted its first Elderly Wellness Day in Okoloma-Afam, providing medical screenings, food, and health tools to over 30 senior residents.
- The programme includes long-term health monitoring, preventive care guidance, and essential supplies supporting community well-being.
Transafam Power Limited, a power-generation arm of Nigeria’s largest listed conglomerate, Transnational Corporation Plc, launched its first corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative for senior citizens in Okoloma-Afam, Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The company organised Elderly Wellness Day, providing medical screenings, wellness education, food, essential items, and long-term health monitoring tools to more than 30 elderly residents, including 24 women and six men.
Vincent Ozoude, Transafam’s Managing Director/CEO, said, “Today marks the beginning of what will become an annual tradition. True progress is measured not only in megawatts but in the lives we touch. We take seriously our responsibility to care for the elders who built this community.”
Specialist doctors from Avon Medical Practice delivered health talks on healthy ageing, hypertension management, diabetes prevention, and preventive care. Participants received vital signs checks, physician consultations, laboratory tests, and on-the-spot medications.
Transafam also gave each senior citizen a digital blood pressure monitor, a three-month supply of multivitamins, and a package of food, toiletries, bedding, and other essentials.
Community leaders praised the initiative for its organisation and impact. Elderly Wellness Day forms part of Transafam Power’s broader healthcare-focused CSR programme, which also covers waste management, medical consultations, and youth employment.
The company pledged to make the event an annual occurrence and expand its community development projects in health, education, and economic empowerment. Transafam Power, acquired by Transcorp Group in 2020, operates a 966MW capacity and contributes significantly to Nigeria’s electricity supply.
