Seplat Energy Strengthens Board with New Appointments

  • Saidu Mohammed brings extensive experience in the energy sector, particularly in gas infrastructure and policy development.
  • Larry Ettah provides broad corporate leadership experience, portfolio restructuring expertise, and global business insight.

Seplat Energy board appointments signal a strategic move to strengthen governance and continuity at the company. The new directors join after resignations by Bello Rabiu and Babs Omotowa, who left to serve on the NNPC board. Consequently, the appointments ensure stability and continued strategic oversight.

Effective from January 1, 2026, Saidu Mohammed and Larry Ettah will serve as independent non-executive directors. The recruitment followed Seplat’s board succession plan, which aimed to maintain strong governance and ensure seamless leadership transitions. This approach underlines the company’s commitment to transparent and effective board management.

Mr Mohammed brings over 37 years of experience in the energy sector, particularly in natural gas development and infrastructure. He previously served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer (Gas and Power) at NNPC.

During this time, he led major gas projects and developed key policy frameworks, including the Gas Masterplan, Gas Network Code, and contributions to the Petroleum Industry Act. Therefore, his appointment aligns with Seplat Energy’s long-term strategic ambitions.

Mr Ettah is an accomplished business executive with nearly four decades of experience across manufacturing, logistics, food, and consumer sectors. He spent 30 years at UAC of Nigeria Plc, rising from management trainee to Group Chief Executive Officer between 2007 and 2018.

As CEO, he restructured UACN’s portfolio through global partnerships and acquisitions, including Livestock Feeds Plc and Portland Paints Plc. Additionally, he holds a degree in Industrial Chemistry, an MBA, and has executive education from Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, INSEAD, IMD, and Michigan.

Seplat Energy chairman, Udoma Udo Udoma, welcomed the appointments, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Saidu Mohammed and Larry Ettah to the board. Their complementary experience combines deep industry knowledge with proven business leadership, and we look forward to their contributions to Seplat’s strategic growth.”

The appointments also underline the company’s focus on governance and succession planning. By introducing directors with diverse expertise, Seplat Energy aims to enhance decision-making and operational excellence.
