Adeleye Falade Appointed NLNG Managing Director

  • NLNG Board approves the appointment of Adeleye Falade as the company’s new Managing Director as he joins from Brunei LNG.
  • Outgoing MD Philip Mshelbila departs on 31 December 2025 to become Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum

The NLNG Board of Directors has approved the appointment of Adeleye Falade as the company’s new Managing Director. He will assume office in April 2026. Philip Mshelbila, the outgoing Managing Director, will step down on December 31, 2025.

At a send-off ceremony in Abuja, NLNG’s Manager of Corporate Communication, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, announced Falade’s appointment. Falade joins from Brunei LNG, where he currently serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Mshelbila will transition to his new role as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Qatar.

Deputy Managing Director Olakunle Osobu also praised Mshelbila as a distinguished professional. He highlighted his expertise in medicine, environmental health, strategic business leadership, and global gas diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Osobu noted that Mshelbila led NLNG through unprecedented challenges. These included the aftermath of COVID-19, severe flooding that disrupted gas pipelines, vandalism, and force majeure declarations by gas suppliers. The Russia–Ukraine war also disrupted global energy markets; yet, NLNG continued to pursue its sustainability objectives under his leadership.

During his tenure, Mshelbila expanded NLNG’s feed-gas supply base beyond shareholder joint ventures. In August 2025, he successfully negotiated long-term Gas Supply Agreements with six third-party gas suppliers. These deals will deliver an estimated 1,290 million standard cubic feet per day of feed gas, marking a historic milestone for the company.

Furthermore, Sophia Horsfall, General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, described Mshelbila’s leadership as selfless, steady, and values-driven.

In his remarks, Mshelbila also thanked NLNG’s shareholders, Board of Directors, staff, and industry partners for their support. He expressed his commitment to carrying NLNG’s culture of innovation and excellence into his new role at the GECF.

As Secretary-General, Mshelbila is expected to strengthen engagement between gas-producing and gas-consuming nations and promote stability in the global gas market.
