Jordan and Egypt signed the renewed electricity exchange agreement on Thursday in Cairo. The agreement strengthens bilateral energy cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. It also ensures continued power exchange throughout 2026. As a result, both nations can better manage peak demand periods.
The signing took place in the presence of Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh. Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, also attended. In addition, Jordan’s Deputy Ambassador to Cairo, Riyad Najada, witnessed the ceremony. These high-level representations underscored the agreement’s strategic importance.
On behalf of Jordan, Sufian Batayneh signed the agreement. He serves as Director General of the National Electric Power Company. Meanwhile, Mona Rizk signed for Egypt. She chairs the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. Therefore, both national transmission operators formally committed to continued cooperation.
The renewed agreement allows electricity exchanges to continue until the end of 2026. Consequently, both power grids can maintain operational stability. In turn, this arrangement reduces supply risks during demand fluctuations. It also creates measurable economic benefits for both countries.
