Petralon Energy Names Equere Executive Director

  • The appointment took effect on January 5, 2026, following a year of substantial operational and commercial progress for the company.
  • The expanded leadership responsibilities support Petralon Energy’s next phase of growth.

Petralon Energy has announced the appointment of Uduak Equere as Executive Director. The indigenous oil exploration and production company confirmed that the appointment took effect on January 5, 2026. This decision follows a year of substantial operational and commercial progress for the company.

According to Petralon Energy, the past year delivered key milestones across its asset portfolio. As a result, the company strengthened its execution capacity and improved financial resilience. These gains also reinforced institutional governance. Therefore, Petralon Energy now positions itself for its next growth phase within Nigeria’s independent oil and gas sector.

Against this background, the company described Equere’s appointment as timely and strategic. He will continue serving as Chief Commercial Officer. Additionally, he remains an Executive Director of Petralon 54, a subsidiary of Petralon Energy. Consequently, he will now assume broader group-level responsibilities.

Petralon Energy stated that Equere’s leadership has consistently delivered value. His experience spans commercial development, corporate finance, and operational execution. Hence, the board views his elevation as a natural progression.

Before joining Petralon Energy, Equere built strong expertise across energy and investment institutions. He began his career at Vetiva Capital Management as an Investment Analyst. There, he covered energy equities and analysed Nigeria’s oil, gas, and power sectors. During this period, he also appeared regularly on CNBC Africa.

Subsequently, he joined Afren Plc, where he gained experience focused on transactions. He supported asset expansion through large-scale acquisitions. At the same time, he helped manage contingent liabilities and optimise fiscal outcomes across joint ventures. Therefore, his exposure deepened across upstream operations.

Earlier in his career, Equere worked at Xodus Group Africa. In that role, he delivered petroleum economic assessments for major upstream projects. He also advised on transactions backed by the Africa Finance Corporation. These deals covered acquisitions and debt funding across several African markets.

Equere is a member of the International Association for Energy Economics. He completed the Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies programme at Stanford University. More recently, he finished the Accelerated Development Programme at London Business School. These programmes strengthened his readiness for senior leadership.

Academically, he holds an MBA in Finance from Imperial College Business School, London. He also earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics from the University of Uyo. Notably, he graduated as the best student in his department.

Beyond its corporate duties, Equere actively contributes to industry discourse. He has spoken on energy finance and investment structuring across Africa. He also featured at African Energy Week 2024 in Cape Town. Ultimately, his appointment as an executive at Petralon Energy reflects confidence in experienced leadership.
