Kogi State to Deploy Electric Vehicles to 100 Beneficiaries

  • Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan resumed the rollout of electric motor vehicles for Kogi Central, including CAC registration and technical capacity-building.
  • The initiative aims to empower at least 100 beneficiaries through clean energy transportation and technical training.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed that at least 100 indigenes of Kogi Central will benefit from an Electric Motor Vehicle programme. Her media office issued the confirmation through a statement signed in Abuja by her Special Adviser on Media, Mike Idoko.

The senator designed the programme to promote clean mobility and support commercial transport activities for women and youths. She explained that her office paused the initial rollout to ensure strict regulatory compliance and safeguard public confidence. The suspension first became public during a town hall meeting in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Her office used the pause to establish the necessary legal and institutional structures for transparent programme management. The management company completed its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission during the period. Technicians and electricians also received training to guarantee effective maintenance and technical support for the vehicles.

Vehicle registration processes are ongoing under the current operational phase. The senator stated that deployment will begin once final documentation is concluded. Beneficiaries will operate locally assembled electric vehicles for income generation and transport services.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described the initiative as a landmark intervention that merges empowerment with environmental responsibility. She said the programme will lower transportation costs, create sustainable livelihoods and prepare Kogi Central for a cleaner economic future.

To ensure sustainability, the senator established a registered Trust Fund to oversee the Electric Motor Vehicle programme. The Trust Fund will also manage other constituency assets, including the SNAU Foundation Maternity Centre and modern markets in Okene and Ihima.

Her office launched applications for the Electric Motor Vehicle Technical Training Programme under the Operate and Own Model. The training will equip 100 eligible residents with the skills necessary for operating and maintaining electric and solar-powered tricycles. Graduates will gain access to vehicle ownership and entrepreneurship opportunities through structured deployment.

Interested applicants have been directed to follow the official application instructions released by the Office of the Kogi Central Senatorial District.
