IRENA Assembly Confirms Candidates for 17th Session Leadership Roles

  • IRENA’s 16th Assembly in Abu Dhabi confirmed South Korea as the incoming president for the 17th session under the agency’s geographic rotation rules.
  • Member states nominated Azerbaijan, Comoros, Tonga and Grenada as vice-presidents for the next Assembly, ensuring balanced representation across regional groups.

Delegates at the 16th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly in Abu Dhabi introduced candidate countries for the presidency and four vice-presidencies of the 17th session, according to Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry.

South Korea secured confirmation as the candidate for the presidency in line with geographic representation and rotation rules. The country will represent the Asia-Pacific regional group.

The four vice-presidencies follow IRENA’s regional structure. Azerbaijan received a nomination from the Europe and Others group. Comoros will represent the Africa group. The Kingdom of Tonga will represent the Asia-Pacific group. Grenada secured a nomination from the Latin America and Caribbean group.
