The Nigeria International Energy Summit has confirmed the attendance of several African Heads of State for its 2026 edition. This development reinforces the summit’s position as a major platform for energy policy and investment in Africa.

Confirmed leaders include President Adama Barrow of The Gambia and President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea. Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will host the event and serve as Chief Host.

According to Summit CEO James Shindi, the confirmations show the summit’s growing influence and credibility. He said NIES has become a trusted venue where policy, leadership and investment converge to shape Africa’s energy future.

NIES remains the only oil and gas event officially endorsed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. This endorsement underscores its national importance and regional relevance.

In addition to Heads of State, NIES 2026 will welcome senior government delegations from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas. The summit will also host international energy organisations, chief executives of energy companies, development finance institutions and host community representatives. These groups will engage in discussions and explore new partnerships.

Moreover, the organisers recognised the role of strategic partners, including national and international oil companies, financial institutions and global service providers. Their continued participation strengthens the summit’s ability to attract investment and drive collaboration across the continent.

NIES 2026 will take place in Abuja from February 2 to 5 under the theme “Energy for Peace and Prosperity: Securing Our Shared Future.” The summit will also focus on energy security, economic growth and sustainable development. It will also promote practical solutions and bankable projects.

Furthermore, Conference Producer Kunle Odusola-Stevenson said the goal is to translate ambition into action. He added that energy must support stability, opportunity and shared prosperity across Africa.

NIES brings together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and development partners each year. The summit promotes collaboration and helps shape Africa’s long-term energy agenda.
