Adani Secures Japanese Funding for 6GW Green Corridor

  • Adani Energy Solutions has secured long-term financing from Japanese banks to develop a 6GW renewable energy transmission corridor across northern India.
  • The project will strengthen grid reliability, support clean energy expansion, and supply power to nearly 60 million households.

Adani Energy Solutions Limited has secured long-term financial support from a consortium of Japanese banks for its flagship high-voltage direct current transmission project. The project will create a large green energy corridor that can carry 6,000 megawatts of renewable electricity across northern India.

The proposed corridor will stretch across about 950 kilometres. The corridor will link Bhadla in Rajasthan to Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. Once completed, the project will strengthen India’s national power grid. The project will enable large-scale movement of renewable electricity from solar generation regions to major demand centres.

The infrastructure will supply electricity to nearly 60 million households. The company plans to commission the project by 2029. Therefore, the project will play a major role in India’s long-term clean energy expansion strategy.

Company officials said the corridor will help evacuate renewable electricity generated in Rajasthan. The project will also support efficient integration of renewable power into India’s national grid. As a result, the project will support rising demand for clean electricity. The project will also improve grid stability in energy-intensive urban and industrial regions.

Japanese financial institutions are leading the financing arrangement. MUFG Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation are key lenders in the consortium. Therefore, the project reflects strong international investor confidence in India’s energy transition strategy.

Hitachi will provide advanced transmission technology for the project. Hitachi will work with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited to deliver the technology. This partnership will support domestic manufacturing participation in the project.

Adani Energy Solutions leadership described the project as a major milestone in building India’s national green transmission backbone. Company leaders said the continued involvement of Japanese partners reflects deeper India-Japan cooperation in sustainable energy and infrastructure development.

The project is part of the broader clean energy strategy of the Adani Group. Rajasthan remains one of the most important renewable energy hubs under Adani Green Energy. Renewable electricity generated in Rajasthan is already supporting power supply under Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited.

Adani Electricity Mumbai currently sources more than 40 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy. Therefore, Mumbai is positioning itself as one of the leading global cities in clean electricity usage.

International financial institutions have also shown confidence in the project. A Japanese credit rating agency has assigned a stable rating to the initiative. This rating reflects strong financial credibility and long-term project viability.

The project will strengthen India’s renewable energy transmission capacity. At the same time, the project will support long-term energy security and clean power deployment across major consumption centres.
