NDPHC Diversifies into Renewables, Targets Industrial Clusters

  • NDPHC is expanding into renewable energy and direct electricity supply to industrial clusters to improve reliability and drive economic growth.
  • Managing Director Jennifer Adighije says the strategy will integrate solar and small hydro projects alongside existing gas-fired assets.

Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is diversifying into renewable energy and direct electricity supply to industrial clusters. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Adighije disclosed the plan during a television programme in Lagos.

Adighije said the company is pursuing long-term sustainability and stronger operational efficiency. She added that NDPHC aims to close electricity supply gaps that continue to weaken industrial productivity across Nigeria.

Meanwhile, she confirmed that NDPHC is integrating cleaner energy sources into its portfolio. The company is developing solar and small hydro projects to complement its gas-fired assets under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP). She explained that renewable integration will diversify Nigeria’s energy mix and improve sector resilience.

Furthermore, Adighije revealed that NDPHC is developing a solar power project for industrial clusters in Kano State. The company will use the project as a pilot for similar interventions in other industrial hubs. She said the initiative will supply dedicated and reliable electricity to manufacturing zones. As a result, industries will reduce diesel use, cut production costs, and improve competitiveness.

In addition, she stated that NDPHC is exploring direct electricity supply arrangements with distribution companies and eligible customers under existing regulations. These partnerships will ensure that power from NDPHC plants reaches high-demand clusters efficiently. She stressed that the strategy will maximise economic impact.

Under its “Light Up Nigeria” initiative, NDPHC plans to supply reliable and affordable electricity to industrial and commercial clusters, markets, universities, and residential communities. The company will deploy embedded and independent power solutions to achieve this goal.

Adighije added that the programme will stimulate job creation and attract investment. It will also support small and medium-scale enterprises that suffer from unreliable electricity supply.
