Lagos Energy Summit Targets Bankable Projects

  • The Lagos State Government will host the second Lagos Energy Summit from May 18–20, 2026, to accelerate energy investment and infrastructure delivery.
  • The summit aims to convert regulatory reforms under the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024 into bankable, private sector-driven projects.

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to host the second edition of the Lagos Energy Summit 2026. The three-day event will take place from May 18 to 20, 2026, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel.

The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will organise the summit as a high-impact investment and policy platform. According to the government, the event will accelerate energy access, improve service reliability and mobilise private capital into the state’s power sector.

The summit builds on the maiden edition and marks a shift from regulatory reform to bankable project delivery. This transition follows the implementation of the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024. The law created a framework for subnational electricity governance and investment.

Organisers have adopted the theme ‘Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future’. The summit will convene government leaders, regulators, financiers, developers and innovators. Together, they will address grid constraints, energy poverty and fossil fuel dependence.

Discussions will prioritise renewable energy scale-up and decentralised generation. In addition, stakeholders will examine distribution upgrades and strategies for a 24-hour economy. Therefore, the summit aims to connect policy ambition with practical execution.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu will host the summit, while Obafemi Hamzat will serve as co-host. The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, will coordinate the programme alongside sector stakeholders.

Ogunleye said the summit will assess progress since the enactment of the 2024 electricity law. He added that the forum will catalyse partnerships that deliver measurable results across generation, transmission and distribution.

Participants will attend plenary sessions, technical masterclasses and investment roundtables. They will also engage in exhibitions and curated business-to-business meetings. Organisers expect memoranda of understanding and public-private partnership frameworks to emerge. The agenda further includes technical visits to major energy infrastructure projects in the state.

The government projects more than 4,000 participants, both physical and virtual. It also anticipates regional and international media coverage. Ultimately, officials say the Lagos Energy Summit 2026 will deliver practical solutions that advance sustainable, reliable and inclusive energy access for residents and businesses.
