Waaree Energies Begins Construction of Solar Ingot in India

  • Waaree Energies Limited has commenced construction of a 10 GW integrated solar ingot and wafer facility in Nagpur, India.
  • The project is expected to generate over 8,000 jobs while strengthening the upstream solar value chain.

Waaree Energies Limited has started construction of a large-scale solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Butibori. The project strengthens India’s domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.

The facility will produce 10 GW each of solar ingots and wafers. It will become India’s largest integrated ingot and wafer complex. The project targets the upstream segment of the solar photovoltaic value chain, essential for solar cell and module production.

The 300-acre plant will cost approximately ₹6,200 crore. It will produce high-purity ingots and wafers, reducing India’s reliance on imported materials. The facility will stabilise the domestic solar supply chain.

The project will create over 8,000 direct and indirect jobs. It will support economic growth, industrial development, and skills training in Maharashtra.

Government leaders and industry stakeholders attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including Devendra Fadnavis and Nitin Gadkari.

Hitesh Doshi said the project boosts India’s upstream solar capacity. He said domestic production is crucial for the clean energy transition and reducing imports.

Doshi highlighted Nagpur’s strategic location. He noted its strong industrial ecosystem and connectivity support large-scale manufacturing and logistics operations.

The project aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and supports the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

India’s renewable energy market grows rapidly. Projects like Waaree’s facility strengthen the country’s solar manufacturing base and reinforce its global position in clean energy technologies.
