LONGi, SG Energy to Expand Building Solar in South Korea

  • LONGi and SG Energy will fast-track the deployment of LONGi BRIGHT building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions in South Korea.
  • The partnership will support South Korea’s zero-energy building targets while expanding the adoption of solar-powered building materials across commercial and public infrastructure.

LONGi has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with South Korean building photovoltaic company SG Energy to accelerate the deployment of its LONGi BRIGHT building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions across South Korea.

The partnership will focus on product certification, pilot project development, and expanding sales channels to strengthen LONGi’s presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for building photovoltaics.

Moreover, the agreement advances LONGi’s international expansion strategy for LONGi BRIGHT while reinforcing the company’s ambition to grow its global building photovoltaic business.

South Korea continues to drive demand for building-integrated photovoltaics through stricter energy efficiency regulations. Since 2023, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has required all public buildings to comply with Zero-Energy Building (ZEB) standards. Additionally, all new private multi-family residential buildings must achieve ZEB Level 5 or higher by 2026.

Furthermore, Green Building Certification requirements and RE100 commitments continue to increase demand for renewable energy solutions that integrate seamlessly into building structures.

As urban land becomes increasingly scarce and rooftop space remains limited, developers have turned building façades, shading systems and perimeter walls into valuable surfaces for solar power generation. Consequently, building-integrated photovoltaic systems now play an essential role in helping developers meet zero-energy building requirements without sacrificing usable space.

LONGi designed LONGi BRIGHT to meet these evolving market demands by combining architectural functionality with high-performance solar power generation. The company offers the solution in multiple colours and customisable dimensions, allowing developers to replace conventional façade, roofing and shading materials with electricity-generating building components.

LONGi has already deployed the technology in several landmark projects across China, including the renovation of the Beijing Workers’ Stadium and installations at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center. These projects demonstrate the product’s ability to meet national building standards while delivering strong power generation performance.

Meanwhile, SG Energy brings extensive expertise in building photovoltaic project development, distribution and construction across South Korea. The company will combine its local market knowledge with LONGi’s advanced BIPV technology to deliver solutions tailored to Korean building requirements.

LONGi’s Korea team initiated the partnership after discussions between Zhao Bin, President of LONGi East Asia and Southeast Asia, and SG Energy on market opportunities. Subsequently, Bai Zhongxue, Assistant to the Chairman and President of LONGi’s Building PV System Business Unit, and Justin Lee, Chief Executive Officer of SG Energy, signed the agreement.

Under the partnership, both companies will accelerate Korean Standards (KS) certification, launch demonstration and pilot projects, and establish a sales network targeting premium commercial buildings and public infrastructure throughout South Korea.

In addition, LONGi and SG Energy will provide technical services and jointly develop the market to support the long-term growth of South Korea’s building photovoltaic sector. By combining advanced BIPV technology with local project delivery capabilities, the partners aim to expand the adoption of building-integrated solar solutions and help accelerate the country’s transition to zero-energy buildings.
