Siemens Energy has broken ground on a new high-voltage switchgear manufacturing facility in Pearl, Mississippi, as part of its previously announced US$300 million investment to expand domestic production capacity for critical grid technologies and strengthen the United States power infrastructure supply chain.
The new facility will become Siemens Energy’s second manufacturing plant in Mississippi and will create up to 300 jobs.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves joined Siemens Energy executives and local government officials at the groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction.
The factory will manufacture high-voltage switchgear, which utilities use to protect electrical infrastructure, maintain grid stability and improve the reliability of electricity transmission networks. Siemens Energy is expanding production as utilities continue to modernise power grids and integrate growing volumes of renewable energy.
In addition to manufacturing operations, the Pearl campus will include a state-of-the-art training centre dedicated to workforce development and skills enhancement. The facility will prepare workers for future manufacturing requirements, including those driven by artificial intelligence technologies.
Tim Holt, Member of the Executive Board of Siemens Energy, said the investment will strengthen the United States supply chain for grid technologies while supporting the country’s growing electricity infrastructure needs.
Governor Reeves described the project as a major investment that will strengthen Mississippi’s manufacturing sector, reinforce the nation’s power grid and create hundreds of new employment opportunities across the state.
Several organisations are supporting the project, including the Rankin First Economic Development Authority, Mississippi Development Authority, the City of Pearl, AccelerateMS, Entergy and Hinds Community College.
Siemens Energy has operated manufacturing facilities in Mississippi since 1973, including its existing high-voltage switchgear plant in Richland. The new Pearl facility forms part of the company’s broader US$1 billion strategy to expand manufacturing capacity, strengthen domestic supply chains and invest in workforce development across the United States.
