- Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited has announced scheduled power interruptions from November 5 to 10 across communities in Enugu State.
- The outage will support maintenance at the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s Nsukka station, while reduced national generation continues to constrain electricity supply.
Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has announced a six-day power outage affecting communities across several local government areas in Enugu State. The planned interruption will run from November 5 to 10, 2026, to allow maintenance work at the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) Nsukka station.
MEDL spokesperson Emeka Ezeh announced the schedule in a statement on Monday, October 26. He said the maintenance would take place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The exercise will affect electricity supply through the UNN, SUMAS and Orba 33kV feeders. TCN technical teams will carry out maintenance on equipment at the Nsukka station.
Affected communities include Ukopi, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona, Orba Town, Obollo-Afor, parts of Obollo-Eke, Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa, Nkalagu Obukpa, Okpaligbo, Iheaka and Edem Ani.
Other affected locations include Agbani, Uzo-Uwani, Obimo, Nkpologu, Lejja, Nguru, Aku and Ogbede. The outage will also affect Odim Gate, Nkpor, Nru, Ede Oballa, El Tabera Estate, Ikenga Estate, Wilson Company, Umakashi, Isiakpu, G.R.A. and Ogige Main Market. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), will also experience interruptions.
The affected communities span Nsukka, Udenu, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South and Igbo-Etiti local government areas.
Ezeh apologised for the inconvenience and asked customers to remain patient during the maintenance period. He said the work would support improvements in electricity supply reliability and quality.
Reduced Generation Also Affects Supply
MEDL has separately attributed recent electricity shortages across much of Enugu State to declining power generation. The company said lower generation had reduced system frequency and prompted TCN to introduce load shedding.
“This situation has necessitated the TCN to implement load shedding of the available energy,” Ezeh said.
The reduced energy allocation has limited MEDL’s ability to meet its daily service-level commitments. The distributor said it was monitoring the situation and distributing available electricity across its network.
“MEDL wishes to assure its customers that it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to distribute the available energy allocation fairly across its network,” Ezeh stated.
The company expressed hope that normal supply would resume soon. However, it did not provide a specific timeline for the restoration of electricity supply affected by the generation shortfall.
The scheduled maintenance and wider generation constraints highlight the operational challenges facing electricity consumers in Enugu. Customers in affected communities should expect daily interruptions during the announced maintenance hours.
