President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned a 45kW mini-hydro power plant at Alavanyo Abehenease in the Volta Region of Ghana. The facility which was initially designated to be a 30kW power plant is located on the Tsatsadu Waterfalls. The plant does not require a reservoir for operation as it is a run-of-river scheme.
The plant which was built exclusively with local expertise from the Bui Power Authority would also house a research facility. The Minister of Energy also reiterated that the Bui Power Authority amendment Bill which had been submitted to Parliament would enable the Authority to develop more renewable energy projects nationwide.
Mr Fred Oware, the Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority, also stated that there are some projects in development in Hohoe Municipality, which will likely provide sustainable solar energy to the region.
