The European Commission has listed principles that solar manufacturers must follow to qualify for financial support from the commission. These new principles are aimed at ensuring that solar manufacturers incorporate circular manufacturing and eco-design principles that will lead to a sustainable clean energy industry.
The regulation document stipulates measures which included the recycling of secondary raw materials and components as well as the design of equipment to ensure that they are durable, adaptable recyclable and easily assembled and disassembled. There is also a stipulation for waste management processes for solar manufacturing which would prioritise recycling over disposal.
