The Executive Director, Research and Advocacy, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Mr. Sunday Oduntan has said, the pace of meter installations was by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Meter Asset Provider (MAP) and National Mass Metering Program (NMMP) metered only, 16,308 customers as of November 2020.
Mr. Oduntan assured consumers of the efforts of Distribution Companies (DisCos) in fast-tracking the installation of meters across the country. Speaking on Channels Television, Mr. Oduntan said, “We are not giving excuses, all we are asking for is to be patient with the government, to show understanding with the regulators and the operators.”
The Managing Director of the meter manufacturing firm MEMMCOL, Mr. Kola Balogun, speaking on the issue said, the manufacturers are not to blame. He projected that the metering target may be met by June 2021.
