- Liberia has signed EPC contracts for the construction of an indoor storage facility near the Monrovia Freeport.
- The facility will be power by a hybrid rooftop solar PV system.
The government of Liberia’s procurement and consulting firm, BMC, has signed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the construction of an indoor storage facility – the Liberia Inland Storage Facility (LISF). InfraCo Africa, a subsidiary of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) and the Liberian logistics company GLS Group, has been selected to construct the facility on a 0.4-hectare site located 10km from the Freeport in the capital Monrovia.
InfraCo Africa was awarded a US$360,000 grant from PIDG Technical Assistance (PIDG TA) for electricity access for the storage facility. This grant will be used to procure and install a rooftop solar hybrid system for the facility. The use of solar energy will optimise energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions with a low reliance on diesel generators. According to Gilles Vaes, CEO of InfraCo Africa, “The system is also expected to provide a replicable model for similar installations in the region, with the potential to reduce carbon emissions in the sector.” The facility will commence operations before the end of 2021.
