IBEDC Begins Meter Installations

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on Wednesday began the installations of meters under the National Mass Metering Program (NMMP) of the Federal Government. Speaking at the launch, the Head, Customers Support IBEDC, Mr. Ayo Adio said the installations will result in a reduction in estimated billing.

He also warned that customers of the IBEDC refrain from lobbying for meters as attempts to influence the distribution of the meters will fail. He said, “We have our distribution strategy so that it will not depend on ‘man know man’. It will be such that areas that have been designated will be metered as they are supplied”.

He called for patience from the consumers saying, “Under this system, it is not possible for any of our staff to be mischievous because we are going to keep track as we meter any customer. It will get everywhere. People just have to be patient.

The NMMP was inaugurated by the Minister of Power, Sale Mamman in 2020. The program seeks to distribute 1,000,000 meters to consumers around the country in the first phase.
