- South Africa has commissioned a 50MWp solar power plant.
- The plant is part of the country’s 4th round of renewable energy tenders launched over the past couple of months.
- The energy from the plant will be supplied to the national grid.
The De Wildt solar power plant in South Africa has been commissioned. The plant has a total capacity of 50 MWp, and comprise 169,140 solar panels. The plant which is located in the Madibeng Municipality was developed by a consortium of companies including Zolograph Investments (RF) (Pty), African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), African Rainbow Energy and Power, Reatile Group and Phakwe Solar. The energy generated by the plant will be supplied to the national utility company Eskom.
Eskom signed a 20-year PPA for the purchase of the electricity generated. The plant is part of South Africa’s 4th round Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) tender.
As part of its national plan, South Africa has launched tenders for renewable energy projects over the past year. This has facilitated the construction of several renewable energy projects in the North West Province of the country.
