Boko Haram Causes Prolonged Blackout in Maiduguri

The terrorist organization, Boko Haram over a week ago, destroyed an electric tower in the Borno state capital. The tower which supplies electricity from the grid to the state has been out of service, leaving Maiduguri in darkness.

Some residents who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria lamented the slow response of the authorities to rectifying the issue. Residents have been left without electricity and businesses have been affected by the prolonged outage. A welder, Moses Bala said, “I solely depend on power from government and now that there is no power for one week; I remain out of business”.

Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) in response to the issue has said, the problem is a Transmission problem. The Corporate Communications Manager  (YEDC) Kingsley Nkemneme said “The TCN is in a better position to comment on this as the problem is not about distribution but transmission’’.

Borno state continues to suffer the impact of terrorism in the North-Eastern part of the country.
