China seems to be setting a new trend for global renewable energy deployment. According to the Chinese National Energy Administration (NEA), the country added 120 GW of wind and solar capacity in 2020, reporting almost 72GW of new wind for 2020 alone. The massive numbers have stirred up questions about its accuracy. Many analysts doubt the numbers presented by China – the installation of 47 GW of wind in December alone – despite supply chain constraints. Many analysts believe that these figures may contain earlier installed capacity.
While the debate rages on about the actual figures, one thing that cannot be denied has been the massive growth in China’s renewable energy deployment in recent years. What do you think?
