- The South-Eastern country’s tourism sector is underexplored.
- 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves discovered.
- gas-to-power projects would greatly increase electricity access and tourism.
Mozambique, the south-eastern African country, although blessed with beautiful landscapes, doesn’t seem to have a bubbling tourism sector. The tourism sector of the country is often described as underexplored.
Among reasons for this unsuccessful sector are economic uncertainty and poor energy access. As of 2020, the country had an electricity access rate of 29%.
Mozambique, however, is blessed with natural gas reserves. With about 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves discovered in the Cabo Delgado province, which is a tourism centre of the country.
Investments in gas-to-power projects and infrastructure would do well to increase the country’s energy access significantly. With this increase, the country plans to also increase competitiveness in the energy market, reduce the cost of electricity, and increase the standard of living. All these would do well to give the tourism sector a huge boost.
