Canadian company NuRAN Wireless has just signed an agreement with Orange DRC to provide 2,000 solar-powered telecommunications cell towers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Orange is set to extend its network coverage in the country. The deal, which is worth about €327 million, will see NuRAN deploy 2.75G network in remote locations and 2,000 solar PV-powered telecommunications masts. This network is expected to cover over 10 million in mainly rural areas. NuRAN is expected to complete the installations in 40 months, prioritising communities/regions with more than 5,000 inhabitants.

Orange also signed an agreement with Escotel to supply, install, operate and maintain off-grid hybrid solar power and storage systems at 900 telecommunication sites in Sierra Leone, Liberia and, eventually, the DRC. This will enable the company to reduce its operating costs as well as its impact on the environment.
