South African gold mining company, Harmony Gold is looking to become energy self-reliant via a 30 MW solar power plant. The initial phase of the project has seen the addition of 10 MW renewable energy generation capacity. The company is looking forward to the installation of an additional 20 MW, reaching a total of 30 MW capacity.

Peter Steenkamp, Harmony Gold CEO noted that the adoption of cost-effective and energy savings have successfully helped the company to cut its power bill over the years. Harmony started as a marginal miner through acquisition and has grown into an emerging market mining specialist. It currently operates in Papua New Guinea and South Africa.
