The Congolese government has commenced the construction of a hybrid solar power plant.

The Congolese government has commenced constructing a hybrid solar power plant in Impfondo, in the Likouala department. The facility will have a capacity of 3.4 MW and is being constructed by Produits de construction de Brazzaville (Procob), a subsidiary of the Belgian company ABC Contracting.

The project will be implemented in several phases and consist of 11,520 solar panels with a capacity of 6,480 kVa. Installation of the solar panels is expected to take 10 months. The thermal part of the facility is expected to take longer. The developer estimates that the plant’s thermal part will cost 2.9 billion CFA francs (€4.42 million).
Procob will also construct a 20 kV evacuation line, rehabilitate and extend the distribution grid by about 7.5 km. The hybrid solar power plant is expected to be delivered by the end of the year. The project s being funded by the Government of Congo. The country currently has an installed capacity of 650 MW with an access rate of 68.5%.
