The Education Minister for the Indian state of Punjab, Vijay Inder Singla, stated that the Department is looking to strengthen infrastructure in government primary schools. The state government intends to reduce energy costs in government schools via the adoption of solar panels.
According to the minister, solar energy projects are already being set up in 3,214 schools at the cost of Rs. 97.55 crore (about $1.35 million). The Punjab government plans to install 3KW solar panels in 183 primary schools in the Ferozepur district at the cost of Rs. 2.74 crore (about $380,000).
The government believes that these efforts will make schools smarter and reduce energy consumption and costs.
