NIGERIA: Maiduguri Restored To National Grid After BH Attack

Two months after the Boko Haram (BH) attack on electrical installations in the city of Maiduguri, supply has been restored. The attack that cut the city off from supply was the third successive attack on the city in one month. The city has seen an increase in the activities of the dreaded terrorist sect.

The residents of the town rejoiced at the development. For months, they had to self generate electricity and in addition deal with the rising cost of living following an increase in the cost of fuel prices. “The light came back at 5:42 pm” said Ibrahim Mustafa Goni. Another resident, a student said, “I’m a maths and statistics student and now I can read my books without using my torchlight”.

Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) Spokesperson, Kingsley Nkemneme, confirmed the restoration of supply in a statement on Wednesday. “The management of Yola Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform our dear valued customer(s) that electricity supply is restored to Maiduguri and environs today, 24th March 2021 after completion of work on a faulty Damaturu-Maiduguri Transmission Line,” the statement read.
