BH destroys electrical installations
- Maiduguri was in darkness for 2 months before being restored
- Workers exposed to landmines while fixing destroyed installations
Maiduguri has once again been thrown into darkness following the destruction of two Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) towers by the terrorist sect Boko Haram (BH). This was made known by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah in a statement released. The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday 27th March.
“The incident which occurred at about 5.56 a.m. on March 27 again cut power supply to Maiduguri and its environs. This time, the insurgents chain-bombed two other towers; T152 and T153 on the same line route of the other incident,” the statement read. This attack comes less than a week following the restoration of supply to the city. Following attacks on electrical installations by BH, Maiduguri was thrown into darkness for a period of over two months.
Last week, the TCN announced it had completed repair works at the site of the attacks and successfully restored the city’s supply. Some workers, during the course of carrying out repairs on the damaged equipment, were, injured when their vehicle stepped on a landmine. It is unclear how long the current blackout will last.
