Qair believes that the Lamadji and Gassi solar power plants will generate 61,760 MWh every year while reducing CO2 emissions by 40,000 tonnes. Qair‘s Director of Sub-Saharan Africa, Marc Galinier recently noted that the company’s ambition is to accompany Chad in an energy transition that is both supported and driven by the Chadian government and welcomed by its inhabitants. .
According to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Chad only has about 125MW installed generation capacity – mainly produced from diesel generators. The country have to rely on energy imports from neighbouring countries. The country intends to increase its generation capacity with solar energy. Several projects are under development in the country with the notable ones baing in Djermaya and Gaoui.
