Subsidy for Solar Off-Grid Providers in Uganda

The Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) has opened its third call for proposals from solar off-grid providers in Uganda. The successful companies would be granted up to $20.7 million for the development of off-grid solar solutions.

The aim of the grants is to improve the energy access in the east African country. With 89% of rural Ugandans without access to electricity, the grants hope to provide three (3) million people with electricity, especially rural community dwellers.

The BGFA stated, ‘The BGFA3 application process is divided into two stages: a pre-qualification stage and a final application stage. The objective of the pre-qualification stage is to verify that interested off-grid energy companies meet the key eligibility criteria of the BGFA3 and the minimum technical and financial capacity requirements.’
