EDF Renewables Ireland is about to commence the construction of three new solar power plants in Ireland.

EDF Renewables Ireland is about to commence the construction of three new solar power plants in the counties of Wexford and Kilkenny in Ireland this month. These plants are among the first utility-scale solar power plants to be deployed in the country. The plants, when completed, will have a cumulative capacity of 17MW; Coolroe Solar Farm (5MW) will be sited in Coolroe, Wexford; Blusheens Solar Farm (8MW) in Killinick, Wexford and the Curraghmartin Solar Farm (4MW) is sited n iCurraghmartin, Kilkenny.

These projects are the first in EDF Renewables’ pipeline following its acquisition of Wexford Solar Ltd. last year. The acquisition increased EDF’s portfolio by 100MW as they acquired eight projects across the country.
Kevin Daly, Head of Development, EDF Renewables Ireland, said: “We are delighted to be breaking ground on our first solar projects in Ireland. Developing a diverse renewable energy mix is crucial if Ireland is to achieve its 2030 emissions targets, and these three new solar farms will make an important contribution to meeting these goals and providing consumers with affordable, low-carbon electricity.”
The power plants are expected to be completed in 10 months and will supply energy at a pre-agreed tariff as part of the Irish Government’s Renewable Electricity Support Scheme. The three new solar plants are expected to provide as much energy to power 6,600 homes.
